    The Gila Wilderness in New Mexico has one of the most dramatic landscapes in the area. Its landscape includes deep canyons, rolling hills, high mesas, juniper woodland, grassland and pinion.     New Mexico Wildlife

    There are more than five life zones in New Mexico and this makes the wildlife diverse. The area has a wilderness region that is home to mountain lions, black bears, snowshoe hares and Rocky Mountain elk. There are more than 140 bird species but this usually varies depending on the season you visit the area. New Mexico’s wilderness also has green snakes, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, waterfowl and many-lined shinks. It is also a great place to see wild turkeys, squirrels, mule deer, and bighorn sheep.

    The Zuni Mountains in New Mexico are home to the Albert squirrels and elk. To see peregrine falcons, burrowing owl, bobcat and prairie dogs, visitors can go up to the National Conservation Area.
